Artist Statement

My painting, "Punk Lives," is a tribute to the enduring spirit of the punk subculture and the community it fosters. This work moves beyond the stereotypical imagery of chaos to focus on the people; the faces in the crowd who have found a home in the relentless energy of the music. For my generation, punk was not merely a phase of teenage rebellion; it was the crucible in which our identity was forged, a raw and honest voice that championed the underdog and challenged the status quo.

Now, as adults navigating the compromises of life, we may wave a white flag to society by day, but the punk ethos remains a core part of our being. Attending a concert is a ritual, a near-religious experience where we are baptized again in the sound and solidarity that first defined us. The fact that these pioneering musicians continue to tour is a testament to the longevity of this culture. They are not just relics of our youth but prophets still delivering a vital message.

"Punk Lives" captures this continuum. It is about the values that were imprinted upon us, questioning authority, fighting for justice, and valuing authenticity and that continue to guide us. This painting asserts that the rebellion never died; it matured, finding expression not just in the mosh pit on a weekend, but in the principles we carry within us for a lifetime.
