Artist Statement
In this work I look at my Canadian identity and include many collaged archival Canadian historical photos. I want the viewer to see how it contrasts to my Tanzanian identity, but I am still the same person. I look at how I have grown and changed, to becoming an artist and the many opportunities and various things I have been exposed to while living in Canada. These range from many cultures such as Asian, European and more, the foods I have learned to love, and even music that I now listen to. This is all due to living in a diverse city like Toronto, which is beautiful and allows any newcomer to find their own people and culture. I want the work to feel like a celebration of my Canadian identity and how much I love living here.
