As a Tanzanian- Canadian who moved here at a young age, and slowly lost connection to my Tanzanian roots.
In my work I delve into themes of diaspora, identity, memory, language, displacement, family, and the everyday moments that shape our lives. As a settler in Canada, who is grappling with the complexities of belonging and the sense of dislocation.
I look at how this disconnection and loss is a part of life when you move away from your home country. How it can be both positive in exploring and learning about new cultures, while also negative as you slowly start to forget your own.
I invite viewers to explore their own sense of place and belonging in a rapidly changing world. To think about what diaspora and multiculturalism means to them and how do they fit within it?
