This painting is from a collection of works on canvas that reflect my journey as a British-born, South Asian Muslim male. “4th Sujood” is an extension of my earlier body of work, 'The Hoody Series'. While 'The Hoody Series' explored themes of identity and societal perceptions through self-portraits in hoodies, this piece delves into my experiences with the Islamic daily prayers. I aim to challenge perceptions and stereotypes surrounding Western Muslims. The contrast of the ritual of prayer being done in Western clothing highlights the complexity of balancing and expressing multiple cultural identities at once.Living and creating in Canada for the past few years has given me the opportunity to grow as an artist and person; furthering my understanding of my own culture and others’.
